Beyonce: HOMECOMING
Beyonce has made another film and I couldn’t be happier. Beyonce has captured her major performance as the first Black woman to headline Cochella (2018) or should I say Beychella. Beyonce has always been in the spotlight but tries her hardest to keep boundaries with her life and family so anytime there’s a moment when fans get to peak in, I am in love. I wasn’t just excited to see her performances but to see the reaction of the crowd. Priceless.
This Netflix film directed by Beyonce and Ed Burke highlights not only the performances but clips from meetings, rehearsals, private moments with her family including her twin babies, visuals and words by Black poets and artists that have came before her, leading the way.
This film gives you a deep perspective of what it means to not only work hard but what it means to be a creative visionary. Because that is what Beyonce is. She’s a leader. She knows what she wants, how she wants it and how it needs to be executed. With that being said, it’s perfect that the whole theme around this performance was an HBCU Homecoming. Beyonce had over 200 people performing in unison, there was an orchestra, a full drum line, brass band, background dancers/ singers, “majorettes”, “fraternity pledges” and a choir. I’m a huge Spike Lee/ School Daze fanatic so I was loving all the skits.
Another beautiful highlight was when Destiny’s Child got on stage and sang all the classics that launched their career. It’s always nice seeing them together. My heart melted when Solange came on stage and twerked and danced with her sister. They literally danced till they fell down in laughter.
Beyonce’s growth has been amazing to witness, especially with her being a Pop/R&B celebrity. The way she’s evolved to show that she’s way more than all of that is breath taking. It’s admirable to see a Black celebrity to use her platform/resources to educate and show up for the culture. Especially being a Black woman that white women love. Don’t let these Beckys forget Black Culture is not a trend.
Black men are not a trend.
Black women are not a trend.
We are a force.
Beyonce’s Homecoming is on Netflix and the album can be found on Itunes and Spotify.
